The Moorish Castle in Sintra is a stunning historical landmark that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. This 9th-century fortress is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history and architecture. With its unique design and rich cultural heritage, the Moorish Castle is a true gem of Portugal.
Extra Tip from us:
This fortress / castle is on top of the mountain, about 500m coming down from Pena palace. It is a place with an amazing view but many stairs to get to the top of the towers and outer walls. For parents with smaller children in push chairs they will have to leave them at the central castle square before heading up.

The Palácio de Monserrate is a beautiful castle and park about 8km outside the Sintra city center. It is considered one of the most important examples of Romantic architecture in Portugal. It was commissioned by Sir Francis Cook in the 19th century and designed by James Knowles Jr. The palace is known for its eclectic mix of architectural styles, including Gothic, Moorish, and Indian.
